Affordable Housing Development

Worcester Community Housing Resources works with private and public partners to develop both home ownership and rental housing in key neighborhood locations. With a development and management staff experienced in almost all federal, state, and local financing programs, WCHR has the ability to work with property owners, local government, and advocates in developing a plan and financial package to turn vacant land and underused or abandoned buildings into quality housing.

WCHR  also works with non-profit agencies and for-profit developers to provide financing for their development projects and to assist with the location of additional funding.  The organization also provides services to help to manage facility development or rehabilitation projects.

Receivership

Like many states, Massachusetts has a strong law that allows courts to put unsafe properties into receivership in order to address the unsafe conditions and return them to habitable condition. WCHR works with municipal officials, the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, and approved receivers to provide lending and technical support.

WCHR is one of a few lenders in the region who can make these loans, and has become a leading institution in the use of receivership to combat abandoned and foreclosed properties.

Receivership programs enable local cities and towns to eliminate blight and threats to public health and safety by rehabilitating properties with multiple code violations, including those that are abandoned and foreclosed.

WCHR works with private contractors and property owners who are appointed by the court to take over the management and repair of substandard properties, then resell the properties to responsible property managers for their long term sustainability.
